There are many times that you may need to retrieve software that you would like to use again. This can be due to a number a reasons such as changing computers, join new online classes, not having a disc and just a download, losing a key to the software, a computer crash and more. It is important to know how to get your software back in these cases because some software can be quite expensive; too expensive to just lose and not be able to get it back without purchasing it again.
One way to ensure that this doesn’t happen is to always have a disc of the software. Most software companies will offer a disc along with your download. These are usually a few dollars more but well worth it in case of the above mentioned disasters where you can lose everything.
Another helpful thing to do is to print out all of your download information that includes the name of the software, where the download can be found (include a URL for this) and any key or license numbers that were included after your payment. This way if there is not a disc available you can find your way back to the download and re-enter your information to download it again without having to purchase it.
Some people keep all of this information in their e-mail accounts but if you were to lose your e-mail along with a computer crash, sometimes it can be hard to navigate your way back to the original download. Always make a list of your software as well so that you know exactly what programs you had. Keeping them on an external hard drive can be helpful but keep in mind that the main program will still be on your C drive so if the computer crashes, it’s still lost.
